administrator: the instructional leader in the school, usually referred to as the principal or the head teacher.

lunch and learn sessions: informal training sessions scheduled over a lunch hour. Participants usually bring their own lunch to these presentation sessions.

parent engagement: participation in both the planning and execution of broadly-defined learning activities at home and at school. See Epstein et al (2002) [a]

parent engagement plan: plan detailing how your school or district will work with parents in support of student learning.

Parent Portal: a specialized portals providing a personalized gateway that aggregates information and allows access to a variety of relevant resources and services. For parents this would include the ability to connect with information and services relevant to their child’s learning and activity at school, through any computer connected to the World Wide Web.

popup windows: a new web page that opens to display relevant information, such as a definition, an explanation, or some other associated content.

portal: “a site serving as a guide or point of entry to the World Wide Web and usually including a search engine or a collection links to other sites arranged especially by topic” (Merriam-Webster’s Online Dictionary).

school culture:”the customary beliefs, social forms, and material traits” (Merriam-Webster’s Online Dictionary) of the group of people working together in a school

single-school campus/district: an organization comprised of a single school. May be operated by a public or private board or religious institution.
