Understanding Policy and Legislation
Earlier in your planning, you identified the policies and legislation that governed parent groups in your school or district. Now as you design your Portal, there are other areas of policy and legislation that you must consider. Your best strategy is to talk to whomever in your school or district is responsible for legal affairs and describe your Portal project to that person.
The most likely area that you will need to address is personal privacy (see the Issues section on Security for information about a Privacy Impact Assessment), but you may also have some more obscure area to address. For example, it may be that your funding is linked to how you deliver services, and something about the Portal will need to be tweaked for you to remain in compliance. Or you may have an internal policy that prohibits public blogs. Each of these items will need to be addressed.
The Requirements Sheet template includes a column where you can record the policy and legislation implications of the features, functions and content you have identified.
