You are building a Portal because you believe it will support parent engagement in your schools. But have you thought about its purpose in a way that you can write it down? Does your Portal Team have a vision for what you want the Portal to accomplish?

Here are some samples of parents’ visions for a Parent Portal:

Connect with all parents even if they cannot come to the school. Increase the flow of information to parents with specific concerns. Share information with people who are doing now what has already been done.

A common place online where parents can get meaningful and relevant information. Informed parents become engaged parents.

A central resource for parents. Forms that can be filled in online

Direct feedback from teachers about my children and their progress and issues.

Because the Portal reflects and supports your community, you need to create a purpose statement that resonates for you, your school and your district.
