Issues
A good plan considers possible issues before they occur and creates a plan to deal with those issues. Of course not every issue can be predicted, but here are some that you will likely encounter.
- Ownership. What happens when parent voice disagrees with district voice? If the Portal is funded by the school district, it is possible that the school district will want to make decisions about the Portal. Knowing in advance how decisions about the Portal will be made is important to the smooth functioning of the Portal.
- Governance. Closely related to the ownership issue, governance sets in place the decision-making processes and accountabilities for the Parent Portal. The larger and more complex your school district structure, the more important it will be to have clarity here.
- Security. What is the belief about security? How secure should the Portal be? Which parts should be accessible and to whom?
- Fear of Change. Is your district or school ready for change? Where will you encounter resistance and how will you deal with it?
