The mistake we often make is to only think about training when we release something new. Remember that new users will continually come to the Portal, even once it is well established. So training needs to address both these situations. Be sure to create materials and strategies that can be sustained. You need to identify who will be responsible for training on an ongoing basis, for whatever strategies you choose.

Training also needs to be targeted to the different end users of the Portal. Each type of end user will have different needs, and even within a target group there will be different base skill levels.

Everyone will need to know how to access the Portal and how to use the features of the Portal. This is called Basic End User Training.


Basic End User Training:

  • Create an account on the Portal
  • Log in to the Portal
  • Use basic features, such as search, read content, access help
  • Log out

Specialized training, targeted to specific users, is documented within this section. You will build strategies to deliver training in the Change Management Plan.
